The word Kamut refers to a brand name which belongs to the American firm Kamut founded by Bob Quinn in the state of Montana, North America, Quinn has a degree in vegetable pathology and biological agriculture. The name preserves and relates to a particular kind of corn ,an under species  Triticum turgidum ss. Turanicum  it is important to underline the fact that 99% of the worlds production comes for North America and Canada, it is therefore normal to find on confections the statement “NOT UE agriculture”.
This product is also known by the name of Khorasan  mentioned  for the first time in relation to a vague kind of grain coming from Iranian regions in 1921.
It would seem that Khorasan was discovered and brought to North America by a pilot during the second world war who had found some seeds in an antique Egyptian sarcophagus, according to Egyptologists the Egyptian word also means  “soul of the earth”.
Similar to corn, Khorasan contains 30-40% more protein, fats, vitamins and minerals. Due to its buttery sweet flavor it is indicated for preparing , biscuits, pasta and bread. Khorasan is an excellent source of proteins, essential acid fats, vitamins and minerals particularly rich in selenium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, zinc, sodium and selenium. In the vitamins present there some of the vitamin B group,  (thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin B6) and  up to 30% more vitamin E is contained than in common grain. Very important is the highly superior concentration of many amino acids as regards to common grain. Kamut contains much selenium a quality which must be maintained. It contains about 400 ppb, so much so, should you eat three portions a day,  this cereal supplies almost a 100% of a daily need of selenium in a human diet.
